With a hearty hi-ho Silver and a continued tip of the hat to Miss
Manners, Atlanta, Georgia's Gentle Readers (that would be us)
entered 2001 as a bigger, sexier five piece band, with a continued
commitment to melodic dynamic intelligent moody pretty songs. Three
albums now we have sitting under our collective rumpuses, including
1996's "It's A Sexy Life," 1998's "You in Black & White" and 2000's
"Hi Honey." The latter has been acclaimed as a "nearly perfect pop
record;" the first was described as "intelligent stuff, worthy of
Talking Heads, VU status." And it didn't come from any of our
relatives - they've never heard of the Velvet Underground. You can
find these records in the homes of discriminating listeners worldwide,
or check out
flatearthrecords.com
or our friends at
Daemon Records. Susan and Lee have been playing together since 1992. Bassist Greg Partridge joined in 1998, drummer Linda Bolley joined in 1999, and keyboardist Brandon Bush has been playing with us off and on since 1997. We made him learn the secret handshake last year and now he's in. Soon we will have a photo of us all together, hoisting giant steins of beer, arms entwined, singing and dancing. Or probably we'll be sitting in hard wooden chairs listening to NPR while we have our pictures taken, trying not to be hammy, as is this is not The Gentle Readers Way. Humility, servility and dignity are the key ingredients to a nice small career, which we learned when we were growing up in Indianapolis. Now let's move on to the big rock stuff - home pages are for sissies.
