We're from Indiana...
and maybe that says something about the way the music sounds. Maybe not. We needed some change and so in 1991 we moved to Atlanta where we both fell in love with the city and the music community we found there. We never left.
Lee Cuthbert and Susan Fitzsimmons formed the Gentle Readers shortly after moving to Atlanta. It was a flourishing era for music in and around Atlanta with great support for original music by local clubs and radio.
After recording It's a Sexy Life in Atlanta they returned to Bloomington, Indiana to record You in Black and White for Flat Earth Records with the help of Travis McNabb (Better than Ezra, Sugarland) and Vess Ruhtenberg (Lemonheads, Antenna) and Paul Mahern (John Mellencamp, The Fray, Iggy Pop). They returned to Bloomington two years later with a full band joined by Greg Partridge, Linda Bolley (Michelle Malone) and Brandon Bush (Tift Merritt, Train, Sugarland) to record Hi Honey, also for Flat Earth.
Something crazy like 25 years later The Gentle Readers have released You're Soaking in It on Spanking Crane America.
